Paramount’s been putting Transformers movies at a reliable clip since 2007, and after seven live-action movies, you pretty much know what you’re getting. Transformers One is something different: it looks different from the previous movies, and it’s also a prequel set fully on Cybertron and focused on the relationship between future figureheads Orion Pax/Optimus Prime (Chris Hemsworth) and D-16/Megatron (Brian Tyree Henry). And the biggest thing that separates it from the other films? It’s the series’ first animated flick since the game-changing, cult classic 1986 movie.
Suffice to say, folks have been wondering to see how Transformers One would shake out. After initial previews played up the more kid-focused humor of the film, the promos started to put the most important foot forward and highlight the Orion/D-16 dynamic. Fans of the now 40-year-old franchise have wanted this to be good since the first real sight of it, and their prayers have appeared to have been answered. Reviews for the movie have largely been glowing, with some going so far as to call it the best Transformers movie in a while, if not ever. That praise has been evenly spread across the board, from its animation and action to its story and cast.
Like with the recent Ninja Turtles movie, Paramount’s ready and willing to go ahead and move forward with a sequel for this new continuity if One ends up doing well. Until a decision’s made either way, we want to know what you thought of Transformers One. Liked it, despised it, think Megatron rules and Sentinel Prime deserved to catch more hands?
