The Gorge Is a Starcrossed, Possibly Monstrous Love Story

Got plans for Valentine’s Day next year? Apple hopes you don’t plan on seeing Captain America: Brave New World or go on a date, because it’s got a fresh new movie dropping that weekend—it’s called The Gorge, and will hopefully be a movie that appeals to all pairings on the lovey-dovey day.

Directed by Black Phone and Doctor Strange’s Scott Derrickson, the film stars Miles Teller as Levi and Anya Taylor-Joy as Drasa. They’re elite snipers for their respective countries, and they’re manning towers on opposite sides of a massive gorge. Their mission, spend a full year using their skills and high-tech equipment to keep watch and prevent…something down below from getting out. What’s down in the gorge, they aren’t told, and they’re also instructed not to ever contact each other. Of course, they eventually go and make contact with each other, forming a very long-distance bond that could become something more, if only they could be closer.

But first, they have to finish the rest of their mission, which gets tricky when said thing down there starts rising up. Eventually, Levi and Drasa are forced into the gorge, and they’ve got to rely on each other to escape, if they even can. Derrickson previously told IGN this would blend elements of romance and sci-fi with “action, spy thriller and even horror,” and he might not be wrong. It looks like there’s a little something for everyone here, and it’s got a neat hook behind it. Hopefully it’s not just all talk and it works as both a love story and a creature feature.

The Gorge comes to Apple TV+ on February 14, 2025.
